Update: Falcons have offer from HBO’s Hard Knocks

UPDATE 5:45: The Falcons have been approached by HBO and are considering the opportunity to appear on Hard Knocks.

EARLIER POST: There is a “sourced” report from Rich Cimini from ESPNNewYork.com that the Falcons have emerged as a leader to be featured on HBO’s popular “Hard Knocks” sports reality show.

We have calls into the team to see if they will comment on the report.
Last May, in a major shift, general manager Thomas Dimitroff indicated on a national radio interview that he would not summarily rule out the team being featured on the show.
In the past, when we’d ask about Hard Knocks, the answer was basically a “no #$^&^*! way.” The Falcons turned down an offer from HBO three years ago.

The sports documentary chronicles the team’s training camp. Two seasons ago, the New York Jets were featured and Rex Ryan expanded most folks vocabulary and taught viewers “How to play like a Jet.” In 2009, the Cincinnati Bengals were featured and they went on to win the AFC North.
The Falcons will have to determine if they are pleased with the development and maturation of their team in order to accept any offer.

When asked about Hard Knocks on Sirius Radio, Dimitroff said. “I truly believe that an organization has to be in the right spot to jump into something like Hard Knocks. I think it sheds a lot of light on our league. This is a league of entertainment. There are some traditionalists that struggle with it, but they have to work against the grain a little bit and see that this is about entertainment. Hard Knocks is a good show for the fan base.”

That was a major shift in the organization’s thinking.
“[Three] years ago we were approached and decided that it wasn’t right for us at that point,” Dimitroff said. “That’s not to say we wouldn’t go down that road if it was presented to us at another time. We are much closer to being in that spot where it’s not going to be as much of a distraction as it would have been another time.

“It’s such an individual thing. Hard Knocks could be right for some of the teams that are fairly entrenched. It could be right for some team that wants to kick off some more brand recognition.”
Head coach Mike Smith was on Hard Knocks when he was an assistant with Baltimore.

A l'approche de la draft, je vous mets quelques "draft grader" de Pro Football Focus, qui note les 3 dernières drafts d'une équipe

Citation
Draft Grader: Seattle Seahawks

It’s been an interesting couple of years in Seattle since Pete Carroll and John Schneider took charge of the Seahawks. Faced with an aging and declining roster, they’ve overseen a massive overhaul in talent, with some moves that have worked and some that haven’t.

Continuing our Draft Grader series, we take a look at some of the talent Tim Ruskell had picked up for the two, while also examining their own first draft class. Each pick between the 2008 and 2010 draft classes gets a grade between +2.0 and -2.0 (in 0.5 increments) that depends upon:

• Where they were drafted
• Their performance
• Their contribution (how many snaps their team got out of them)
• Other factors such as unforeseen injuries and conditions that could not have been accounted for

Let’s take a look at how Seattle has drafted.

+2.0: You’ve just found Tom Brady in the 6th round

Would they have started Tarvaris Jackson last year if they had?

+1.5: Getting much more than you bargained for!

Kam Chancellor, S (133rd overall pick in 2010): Is this too high for Chancellor? It depends, to a degree, on whether you think he can cut back on the harmful (seven) penalties and continues to be one of the true playmaking safeties in the league. Our fifth-ranked safety in the league last year, he would have been in the Top 3 but for some unnecessary penalties.

+1.0: The scouts nailed it!

Red Bryant, DE (121st overall pick in 2008): It’s strange that while being a pick of the old front office, Bryant has only really developed since Pete Carroll took over. A defensive end who allows the Seahawks to run a heavily 4-3 hybrid defense, the former fourth round pick is the kind of player that forces runs away from where they’re intending to go. While he rarely offers much in the form of a pass rush, he is a huge part of an improving defense.

Justin Forsett, RB (233rd overall pick in 2008): Coming off his worst year, you shouldn’t forget just how good Forsett was over the 2009-10 seasons. The second most elusive back in the league in his rookie year, the former seventh-rounder has also made a big contribution at times on special teams.

Earl Thomas, S (14th overall pick in 2010):
A tough at times rookie year made way to an impressive sophomore season that saw Thomas finish ranked eighth overall in our safety rankings. There are areas of his game that he can improve, but he is a very active player.

+0.5: Never hurts to find a solid contributor

Max Unger, C (49th overall pick in 2009): You’re not going to get Unger confused with the top centers in the league. He’s capable of terrible games (Week 14 versus the Rams last year), but he’s a competent starter who should hold down the position for years. It’s also worth noting that he didn’t allow his quarterback to hit the deck once in 2011.

Golden Tate, WR (60th overall pick in 2010): A player who just doesn’t drop balls, Tate also has a knack for breaking tackles after finishing eighth among all receivers with 13–despite catching half as many balls as the guys above him. He looks to now have the trust of the Seahawks’ coaching staff and could be poised to break out.

Walter Thurmond, CB (111th overall pick in 2010): While still a developing player and coming off an injury, Thurmond has held up pretty well when he’s been on the field for a not-so-insignificant 563 snaps. He’s served as part of a deep rotation of cornerbacks.

0.0: Nothing ventured, nothing gained/ it could have been worse

Owen Schmitt, FB (163rd overall pick in 2008): Schmitt hung around the roster and got significant snaps on offense, but just was never a good lead blocker.

Brandon Coutu, K (235th overall pick in 2008): Stayed on the roster for an entire year but couldn’t beat out an established Olindo Mare. No shame in that.

Deon Butler, WR (91st overall pick in 2009): 969 snaps later we’re still trying to figure out if we like Butler, or if we’re giving him something of a pass for that horrific 2010 injury. 2012 which will hopefully help answer that question.

Mike Teel, QB (178th overall pick in 2009): Teel spent his first year in the league a game day inactive as the Seahawks’ No. 3 QB, but wasn’t part of Carroll’s master plan when he took over.

Nick Reed, DE (247th overall pick in 2009): Got some pressure as a rookie and would have been interesting to see how he developed, but he wasn’t a favorite of a new coaching staff and was waived after having his knee scoped.

Cameron Morrah, TE (248th overall pick in 2009): Morrah has found himself on the field for 416 plays, yet his biggest positive may be that he’s not Anthony McCoy.

Russell Okung, T (6th overall pick in 2010): A difficult sophomore season leaves Okung needing to take a big step forward to deliver on his potential as a sixth overall pick. A good run blocker, it’s his pass blocking that is something of a concern after giving up five sacks, three hits, and 24 hurries (to go with nine penalties). His rookie year earns him some leeway.

Dexter Davis, DE (236th overall pick in 2010): Prior to missing all of 2011 with a hip injury, Davis was strangely limited to just 85 snaps (including playoffs) as a rookie despite generating a sack, hit and eight hurries on just 44 pass rushes. We would like to see more of him as in (very) limited opportunities he has looked someone who could excel as a situational rusher.

Jameson Konz, TE (245th overall pick in 2010): Two seasons in the NFL and two season-ending injuries. A pair of tough breaks.

-0.5: That pick was not put to good use

John Carlson, TE (38th overall pick in 2008): After 55 catches for 627 yards as a rookie, everyone seemed to fall in love with the athletic tight end … so much so that they haven’t readjusted their opinions of him. A frankly terrible blocker whose impact as a receiver has lessened as teams have got more tape on him, Carlson turned out to be something of a disappointment. His new contract with the Vikings has raised some eyebrows with some of the PFF staff.

Tyler Schmitt, LS (189th overall pick in 2008):
One begs to question the wisdom of using a draft pick on a long snapper, let alone one with a degenerative back condition.

Courtney Greene, FS (245th overall pick in 2009): Greene didn’t make it to the active roster or practice squad in his rookie year.

E.J. Wilson, DE (127th overall pick in 2009): Cut during his rookie year, Wilson saw the field for 33 snaps and was a waste of a fourth round pick.

Anthony McCoy, TE (185th overall pick in 2010): Is it harsh to punish a sixth round pick with a negative grade when he’s played 447 snaps in his first two years in the league? The -16.0 grade we’ve given to McCoy says so, with him being a liability in pass protection, a poor run blocker, and a frequent dropper of passes. That’s a full house in bad tight end play.

-1.0: What a waste!

Lawrence Jackson, DE (28th overall pick in 2008): Injuries didn’t help Jackson, but his failure in Seattle goes beyond that. The coaches didn’t seem to have the answer, with failed experiments such as using him as an inside rusher on passing downs failing to get the best out of him. His success in Detroit backs this up. A good player, badly used.

Aaron Curry, LB (4th overall pick in 2009): Remember when people said Curry was the most NFL-ready player out there? He’s looked lost dropping back, and failed to take over games the way you’d hope a linebacker selected fourth overall would. He’s not a bad player, but he’s also not a guy you’d want on the field for every down. He was traded to Oakland last season for a 2012 seventh round draft choice and a conditional fifth in 2013.

-1.5: The scouts/ coaches failed, big time!

Not in these drafts.

-2.0: You just drafted the love child of JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf!

No Russell/Leaf hybrids in these classes.

Summary

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to Seahawks fans that much of the better drafting occurred in 2010, with the previous front office and coaching teams failing to get the best out of a number of early-round picks. Instead, the encouraging development of the 2010 class shows a talent for finding the right college players to be developed and end up contributing when they’re ready. This is especially true with some of the later round picks.

Draft Grader: New York Jets

Up next in our Draft Grader series are the New York Jets as we examine the job Mike Tannenbaum has done over the past four years when it comes to giving his coaches talent to work with. The Jets may be widely accepted as having one of the best rosters in the league, but has the draft been their vehicle for creating it?

+2.0: You’ve just found Tom Brady in the 6th round

They may have got better play out of a sixth-rounder than what they have from their first.

+1.5: Getting much more than you bargained for!

They wish.

+1.0: The scouts nailed it!

Heck, they’d settle for some of these.

+0.5: Never hurts to find a solid contributor

Dwight Lowery, S (113th overall pick in 2008): Excelled as a rookie, and while he found it hard to get on the field in year No. 2, always put forth strong performances. Rex Ryan never quite seemed sure if Lowery was a cornerback or safety, and despite playing well at both spots, he found himself traded away.

Shonn Greene, RB (65th overall pick in 2009): A tad one dimensional (okay, more than a tad), Greene has looked a talent running the ball, but struggles in all elements of the passing game. Pick would probably look better if the Jets had done a better job finding a back who truly complements him.

Matt Slauson, G (193rd overall pick in 2009): He’ll never be one of the best guards in the league, but he is a good enough player that he can start without you having to overly worry about it. Great value in the sixth.

Joe McKnight, RB (112th overall pick in 2010): While his contribution on offense (and defense) hasn’t exactly wowed us, McKnight is one of the league’s better kick returners.

John Conner, FB (139th overall pick in 2010): The Terminator had a good year with his lead blocking in 2011 and looks like a solid replacement for the Jets’ version of Tony Richardson. If you’re going to draft a fullback, that’s what he needs to be.

0.0: It could have been worse

Erik Ainge, QB (162nd overall pick in 2008): You can’t fault the jets for the multitude of personal problems that Ainge entered the league with.

Marcus Henry, WR (171st overall pick in 2008): The former sixth round pick lasted a year before being waived.

Nate Garner, G (211th overall pick in 2008): Didn’t get a chance to clear waivers and hit the Jets’ practice squad as a rookie before the Dolphins picked him up.

-0.5: That pick was not put to good use

Dustin Keller, TE (30th overall pick in 2008): If you’re going to pick up a tight end in the first, they need to be either a difference-making receiver, or the kind of complete player that can play every down. Keller isn’t either, being one of the worst blocking tight ends in the league and not becoming the reliable safety net the top tight ends are for their quarterbacks. He has upside on any given play, but spends too much time not doing anything overly constructive.

Kyle Wilson, CB (29th overall pick in 2010): Did the Jets draft Wilson to replace Antonio Cromartie or to match up with the multiple receiver sets they were facing the AFC East by putting him in the slot? Either way, it’s kind of failed in both regards with Wilson looking anything but a first round pick in his first two years in the league.

Vladimir Ducasse, T (61st overall pick in 2010): How telling is it that this former second round pick was unable to beat out the awful Wayne Hunter for the vacant right tackle spot. That’s like the Jets saying that right now Ducasse is a worse player than Hunter and that is quite scary.

-1.0: What a waste!

Mark Sanchez, QB (5th overall pick in 2009): The 2009 class was always going to depend on Sanchez and how he played and, unfortunately, he just hasn’t cut the mustard. Saving your better performances (which generally involve just avoiding mistakes rather than making a lot of plays) for the playoffs should not give Sanchez a pass as he fails to improve as a quarterback. The recent signing of Tim Tebow should indicate just how much of a flop the Sanchize has been, while his new deal simply serves to make it easier to cut him in a couple of years. The clock is ticking.

-1.5: The scouts/ coaches failed, big time!

Not in this regard but …

-2.0: You just drafted the love child of Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf!

Vernon Gholston, DE (6th overall pick in 2008): What can you really say about this? Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane, as Gholston earned a -12.2 grade while playing just 629 career snaps as a Jet. He is the dictionary definition of a bust.

Summary

With just 13 picks over three years, when you don’t hit on them it really stands out. The selections made from 2008 to 2010 are a real dark age of scouting and development as the Jets look like they’ve fluffed on all of their Day 1 picks and got minimal returns from the remains of each draft. Though, while the Jets have done little with their drafts in recent history, earlier classes are still producing and they’ve done a good job of bringing in free agents. It’s just a shame that the one pick they really needed to hit on (Sanchez) hasn’t been able to take advantage of that.

I ain't going to say I was sad because the only thing they remember is that pass,' Thomas said. 'You gotta go back and look at the rest of the games. I wasn't getting no balls and you had to make some of these plays where some players were open and he is not making the throws. But I don't want to talk bad about Tim, but hey I am happy we got Peyton.

T'as mis 2 fois Doug Martin à Cleveland (22) et Tampa (36) wink.gif Sinon je prie chaque jour pour pas qu'on trade up, si c'est le cas je commencerais les chants contestataire anti Tanny depuis mon salon.

Everything regarding the draft is pure guess work, sometimes you hear from some reliable people that we may be considering a certain stratergy in a certain round, it doesn't mean it's happening it just means it's being talked about. Well last night I heard that the Jets are taking a good look at Lavonte David, the Nebraska linebacker for their second round selection.

'Before the Beginning' with Chris Polk

Citation
SEATTLE -- Chris Polk's dream took root immediately.

The first time he touched the ball in an organized football game at age 6, Polk broke loose for a touchdown.

"From that moment on, my dream was to play professionally," Polk said. "I love football so much, I didn't play any other sport since age 6. I never tried basketball, never tried anything else but just football. I've been in love with football since that first carry."

Polk has broken loose with regularity ever since, through his high school days at Redlands (Calif.) East Valley High and the University of Washington, which he left as the second-leading rusher in school history.

Now the question is where football where carry him next.

He's regarded as one of the top handful of running backs available in the NFL Draft later this month, projected by some going as high as the second round. He's currently ranked fifth at the position by NFLDraftScout.com. (Positional Series: Evaluating the Running Backs)

Polk says the conjecture of where and when he'll be drafted doesn't really interest him.

"It's all speculation," he said just under two weeks before the draft. "You never know what this general manger or anyone thinks. I don't pay attention to it. I've been criticized and talked about my whole career and that is what's made me the person I am today. So I don't really let that worry me."

Indeed, in his early years at the University of Washington, the questions were about Polk's durability after he suffered a few injuries, including a dislocated shoulder that sidelined him for the rest of the season two games into his freshman year in 2008.

It didn't take long for Polk to put that tag to rest, carrying the ball at least 226 times each of his three full seasons at UW, finishing with more rushing attempts than anyone in the history of a school traditionally known for strong running games.

En route to rushing for at least 1,000 yards three consecutive seasons -- the only other player in UW history to do that was Napoleon Kaufman, a first-round pick of the Raiders in 1995 -- Polk became known for his tough running style, gaining innumerable yards after contact for a team slowly rebuilding under Steve Sarkisian from the 0-12 disaster of 2008.

Polk says he enjoys doing the dirty work.

"My favorite running plays are anything up the middle," Polk said. "As long as it's up the middle, I'm fine, whether it's inside zone or power or counter or anything up the middle."

At UW, Polk also showed an ability to make the big run, such as the 2010 Washington State game when he rushed for 284 yards on 29 carries, the second-highest yardage total in school history.

Some draft analysts, though, have questioned Polk's speed, whispers that increased after he arrived at the Senior Bowl weighing 224 pounds and called by some observers as "sluggish."

But Polk then slimmed down to 216 and turned in a 4.57-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in February and an even quicker 4.49 electronically timed 40 at Washington's pro day in March.

"I wanted to lose some weight and show them (NFL teams) that I really do care about my body and I really do take what I do seriously," he said.

He thinks he's shown that his speed should be a non-issue.

"I'm a bigger back moving at a good rate," he said. "I'm a game-speed type of person -- I'm not a track athlete."

And Polk can point to all kinds of long runs as proof of his ability to turn the big play -- he had touchdown runs of 46 and 61 yards in the first-half alone at Stanford.

Polk also lists on his resume a solid ability to catch the ball out of the backfield -- in fact, he was initially used at Washington as a receiver as a true freshman in 2008 before being turned into a running back permanently.

Polk caught 79 passes in his Washington career and helped the Huskies win games last season against Cal and Arizona with late touchdown receptions -- his 70-yarder against the Bears, in which he caught the ball 30 yards or so downfield, was Washington's longest pass play of 2011.

"I've always been very comfortable catching the ball," he said.

Polk was eligible for the draft after the 2010 season but decided to return. Having already been in college four years due to the 2008 season and injury, however, it was a pretty clear choice for Polk to leave after 2011.

"I just feel like I'm as good as all the other running backs in the draft," he said. "They are all great, phenomenal running backs and I feel like I fit right in with them. But at the end of the day, I just want to get drafted -- it doesn't matter what round. Then I can say that I'm a professional football player, a professional athlete, and that must makes the dream for me. Whatever team drafts me won't be sorry."

4. In the unlikely event Tannehill makes it out of the top 10, I believe he'll be the 11th overall pick. That spot belongs to the Chiefs. I don't see the Chiefs taking Tannehill. I see Kansas City taking the best offer for the pick, and there will certainly be offers for that pick if Tannehill slips. Still, the most likely scenarios are Tannehill to Cleveland at four or Miami at eight. But why 11? Because teams around the league know how much Seattle loves Tannehill. And you can write this down: If Tannehill were to be there at 12, Seattle would take him, even though the Seahawks just paid medium dollar for Matt Flynn in free agency. That's how much Seattle loves him. "At Tannehill's workout,'' one source told me, "[coach] Pete Carroll was giggling like a schoolgirl watching him throw. His attitude was like, 'What are we even doing here? He'll never be there for us.'

A Week in the life with Steven Jackson. Certains l'ont peut être déjà vu mais pour ceux pour qui c'est pas le cas je vous le conseille c'est vraiment sympa et bien foutu.
