"Sessegnon went on strike in Paris earlier this month in an attempt to force through a loan move to Sunderland before the Black Cats this week agreed to sign him permanently in a £5m deal. But that move could be in jeopardy as Sessegnon has upset people at PSG with his behaviour and, as far as his club are concerned, they have not yet agreed to sell him.
Sessegnon has already been granted a conditional work permit to play in the Premier League, but has not passed a medical and, while a fee has been agreed in principle, it has not been signed off. Sessegnon returned to training this week and the saga finally looked to be nearing completion when Sunderland agreed to a permanent move rather than a loan.
However, it is understood there are elements within PSG who want to punish the player by delaying the completion of the relevant paperwork until the final moment of the transfer window.
There were even suggestions in France yesterday that the plug could still be pulled. The 26-year-old signed for Paris from Le Mans for 10m two years ago, but has fallen out with coach Antoine Kombouare and agitated for a move to England during the summer before signing a new contract.
Capped 36 times by Benin, Steve Bruce is hoping Sessegnon will ease his injury worries up front as he can also play as a second striker, as well as various positions in midfield, and he will be keeping his fingers crossed this is just last-minute posturing from the French.
